Description

Home-Start Central Lancashire is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support helping families with young children through their challenging times. We are there for parents and children when they need us the most because we know that childhood can’t wait. Home-Start works with families in communities right across Central Lancashire. Starting in the home, our approach is as individual as the people we’re helping. No judgement, it is just compassionate, confidential help and expert support. Families struggling with post-natal depression, early childhood development, isolation, challenging behaviour, physical and mental health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer who can spend two hours once a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways they need. Home-Start Central Lancashire also provides up to date training for volunteers and parents, supports families practically and emotionally to increase their capacity to cope with and enjoy life events such as Christmas and school holidays, and helps families to access and engage with other agencies and support.

Description

Chorley URC runs or supports several community projects from our buildings: Open Kitchen, The Meeting Place, Chorley Repair Café and an Aslyum seeker and refugee drop in (starting June 2021). Open kitchen is a free meal for anyone who needs it, from 5pm every Thursday. The Meeting Place is aimed at reducing social isolation by providing a welcoming space to interact with others and engage in activities like gardening, arts and crafts, or games. Chorley Repair Café aims to help repair items that would otherwise be beyond economical repair and to share repair skills in the community so that people can repair their own items in the future. The asylum seeker and refugee drop-in is an in-person advice, support and signposting service, commissioned by Lancashire County Council for 12 months, available to all asylum seekers and refugees in the borough
